Evans index is the ratio of the maximum width of the frontal horns of the lateral ventricles and the maximal internal diameter of the skull at the same level employed in axial CT and MRI images.
A normal Evans index is between 0.20 and 0.25, an index between 0.25 and 0.30 indicates possible or early ventriculomegaly, while a ratio of >0.30 indicates definite ventriculomegaly. The ratio can be higher in a normal healthy elderly individual and varies with age and sex.
