Age: 15 years
Gender: Female
mri

Extensive areas of bone marrow edema in the femoral, tibial and fibular metaphyses extending into the physes (FOPE zones).

No other remarkable findings.

Case Discussion

Focal periphyseal edema zones (FOPE zones) are areas of bone marrow edema in close proximity to the physes that are thought to represent a potentially painful fusion of the physes. Not to be confused with contusional bone marrow edema.
