Presentation
Headache.
Patient Data
Intraventricular cyst having a thin wall (appreciated at the T2 thin cuts FIESTA sequence), likely intra-ventricular arachnoid cyst.
Left frontoparietal extra-axial cyst with adjacent parenchymal gliosis, likely representing porencephalic cyst.
Bilateral middle cranial fossa extra-axial arachnoid cysts.
The aforementioned cysts are non-enhancing.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates different types of intracranial cysts including intraventricular arachnoid cyst, porencephalic cyst, and middle cranial fossa arachnoid cyst.
The intraventricular arachnoid cyst lies within the lateral ventricles. The term intraventricular arachnoid cyst is usually used as a broad term for the cysts that share identical imaging and operative features yet are histologically distinct. Some are indeed a type of arachnoid cyst whereas others are lined by other tissue which could be ependymal cysts, neuroepithelial cysts, or choroid plexus cysts.
The left frontoparietal extra-axial cyst shows adjacent parenchymal gliosis, likely representing porencephalic cyst.
Bilateral middle cranial fossa arachnoid cysts, which is the commonest site of arachnid cysts.
