Presentation

Lower abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is an irregular, hypoechoic region in the middle portion of the renal cortex, that shows high-flow on color Doppler and a draining vein outside the renal parenchyma.

Case Discussion

Renal arteriovenous malformation is an uncommon renal vascular anomaly, which is usually discovered incidentally as most patients are asymptomatic.

It could have similar radiological features to renal arteriovenous fistula, however the absence of trauma and the presence of vascular nidus, favors the diagnosis of arteriovenous malformation.
