Ductal carcinoma in situ

Discussion:

The previous mammogram was normal. On the follow-up study, the patient had calcifications distributed in the 6 o'clock radian of the left breast.

This is another case of DCIS. It illustrates the calcifications we typically associate with DCIS with the X's Y's and Z's of DCIS. The wild and crazy morphologies are present with a linear ductal distribution. Notice how distinct the groupings of DCIS are from one another. DCIS calcifications underestimate the extent of disease on mammography.
