Juvenile idiopathic mid-thoracic scoliosis

Discussion:

Scoliosis is the abnormal lateral curvature of the spine (>100 Cobb angle) where idiopathic scoliosis is by far the most common (~80%) cause.

Management of the Scoliosis:

  • Curvatures <200 requires no bracing or surgical intervention (Careful monitoring after 3 month is necessary to look, if the angle progress >50 if the patient is between 10-15 years)
  • Curvature 20-400 should be braced to prevent progression in the growth period
  • Curvature >400 surgical intervention
