The arc of Bühler is a persistent embryonic anastomotic branch between the 10th and 13th ventral segmental arteries, resulting in a connection between the celiac artery and superior mesenteric artery (SMA). This arch is independent of both the gastroduodenal and dorsal pancreatic arteries.
It travels vertically, ventral to the abdominal aorta, and connects the celiac artery and SMA. It is present in 1-4% of individuals and provides a collateral pathway between the two vascular territories.
