The dorsal scapular nerve is a branch from the C5 root of the brachial plexus and supplies the rhomboid muscles.
Gross anatomy
Origin
Posterior aspect of the C5 root of the brachial plexus.
Course
It courses through scalenus medius then accompanies the dorsal scapular vessels inferiorly, deep to levator scapulae where it lies on serratus posterior superior.
Supply
It supplies both rhomboids on their deep surfaces and may also supply levator scapulae via a separate branch.
