Interparietal (or interstitial 2) hernias (alternative plural: herniae) are a general category of ventral abdominal wall hernias, defined by the occurrence of the hernia sac located between the layers of the anterior abdominal wall. They are commonly incisional hernias and most Spigelian hernias are of this type.
Rectus sheath hernias are a subtype of the interparietal hernias.
