The key image is a property of a stack, and refers to the image which is most representative of the stack as a whole. This image will then be used as the thumbnail for the stack both in case view and when the stack is included in an article.
You can set the key image in two ways.
go to "Edit -> Images" and simply scroll each stack to the image you want; it will auto-update
go to "Edit -> text and annotation" and use the icons (see this image)
