Regarding types of coils used in MRI machines:

phased-array receiver coils allow a better signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for a large field of view

the body coil is always used as a transmitter coil

shim coils are used to actively shield the fringe field

the typical noise emitted by a working MRI scanner is produced by the radiofrequency coils
