Os intercuneiforme

Last revised by Arlene Campos on 18 Feb 2025

An os intercuneiforme is a supernumerary tarsal bone located between the medial and intermediate cuneiforms, anterior to the navicular bone

It is a rare ossicle with an estimated prevalence of 1-2% 1.

An os intercuneiforme is a triangular-shaped bone appearing to be an isolated proximal corner of the medial cuneiform. It is thought to belong to the medial rather than to the intermediate cuneiform 2.

Some authors claim that with its rare occurrence and small dimensions, the ossicle is not of any clinical significance 2.
