The superior rectal artery is an artery that supplies blood to the upper two-thirds of the rectum down to the level of the levator ani 2.
Summary
origin: the terminal branch of the inferior mesenteric artery
course: descends into the pelvic cavity in the sigmoid mesocolon, crossing the left common iliac vessels

rectosigmoid branch
upper rectal branch
right and left terminal branches: at the level of S3, these descend on each side of the rectum, dividing into smaller branches in the wall of the rectum
