Phalangeal fracture and turret exostosis

Discussion:

The patient suffered a metal pole crush injury of the left 1st digit and sustained the phalangeal tuft fracture. There is a history of previous work-related trauma and surgical amputation of the 5th digit, middle and distal phalanx.

There is a typical benign, turret exostosis involving the basal medial cortex of the 1st terminal phalanx.

In view of the clinical confirmation of chronic pain and limitation of motion involving the 1st metatarsal phalangeal articulation, radiological features suggest developing hallux rigidus.
