Ophthalmic artery occlusion

Discussion:

The ophthalmic artery is a branch of the C6 segment of the internal carotid artery, and embolic occlusion most commonly originates from ipsilateral carotid artery plaque showering or from a cardiac origin.

Arterial occlusion leads to retinal infarction and a sudden, painless loss of vision that is usually irreversible, as seen in this patient.
