Info

Swollen oedematous pancreatic head with peri-pancreatic fat stranding and streaks of peri-pancreatic fluid with non-capsulated collections, normal enhancement pattern of pancreatic tissue.

Thickened bilateral Gerot's fascia and bilateral paracolic peritoneal reflections.

Distended stomach, 1st, 2nd, and proximal 3rd part of the duodenum, suggesting that the duodenum is a sentinel loop.

Mild pelvic free fluid.

Case Discussion

Acute interstitial pancreatitis is the most common form of pancreatitis, characterised by pancreatic oedema, peri-pancreatic fluid collections, and the formation of pancreatic pseudo-cysts later as the disease progresses.

A sentinel loop represents a segment of loop ileus occurring in the loop adjacent to the site of inflammation. It is commonly seen in pancreatitis and cholecystitis and helps in the localisation of the source of the inflammatory process.
