Presentation
Acute abdominal pain for three days.
Patient Data

The pancreas is diffusely enlarged and shows homogeneous enhancement inferring acute interstitial oedematous pancreatitis, accompanied by peripancreatic fluid collections. Splenic vein thrombosis secondary to adjacent inflammation.
The hepatic attenuation value is less than the spleen, suggesting fatty liver.
Case Discussion
The pancreatic fluid collections are defined by the presence or absence of necrosis as described by the Revised Atlanta Classification. When necrosis is absent the fluid collections in the first 4 weeks are called acute peripancreatic fluid collections (APFCs). After 4 weeks, encapsulated fluid collections should be called pseudocysts.
