caudal descent of the cerebellar tonsils through the foramen magnum (10 mm below the McRae line) with obliteration of the cisterna magna in keeping with Chiari I malformation
central cystic cavity of the spinal cord of low signal on T1, and high signal on T2 and STIR, extending from the cervicomedullary junction C2 to conus medullaris in keeping with a syrinx.
