Presentation
A case of right hand cut injury on dorsal aspect - about 2 months back. Surgical repair was done within few hours. Right 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th extensor tendons repaired. Complaining of unable to extend 5th digit. Referred for an ultrasound to check tendon continuity.
Patient Data





Repaired extensor tendons to 2nd, 3rd, 4th fingers show continuity. The site of injury and repair is at metacarpus level. Suture material is seen as tiny echogenic dots in cross-section and as echogenic curvilinear lines in long axis.
Two divisions of extensor digiti minimi tendon show loss of continuity over the metacarpal shaft. The gap between two ends of tendon about 18 mm. Surgical sutures present in torn ends of tendon substance. There is healing fracture in underlying cortex of 5th metacarpus.
Case Discussion
This is a case of cut injury to the dorsum of the hand. Ultrasound shows retear of extensor digiti minimi. Repaired extensor tendons to 2nd, 3rd, 4th fingers are intact.
