Patient Data
There are two narrow bony canals in the IAC of the right temporal bone. The IAC is divided by a bony septum into a superior portion and an inferior portion.
The superior portion ends in a wide connection to the facial canal and a narrow connection to the vestibule. The posterior portion ends in narrow connections to the cochlea and vestibule.
The facial nerve canal is intact along its course.
There are no abnormalities in the cochlea, vestibule, semicircular canals and middle ear.
Mucosal thickening in frontal, maxillary, sphenoid sinuses and ethmoidal cells on the left.
The right IAC parts are marked with arrows.
Case Discussion
Narrow duplicated internal acoustic canals are rare congenital malformations of the petrous temporal bone.
