Trauma to the right wrist.
Patient Data
Radiographs of the right wrist showed intra-articular fracture of the distal radius. No accessory ossicle is identified.
CT scan of the right wrist was obtained for further assessment of the fracture. The study shows intra-articular fracture of the distal radius.
A small well-corticated osseous density is noted adjoining the dorsal border of the lunate, at the dorsal surface of the lunocapitate articulation, representing an accessory ossicle (os epilunate).
Case Discussion
The patient was being evaluated for wrist trauma. The accessory ossicle was noted incidentally. The patient did not have any symptoms in relation to the accessory ossicle.
Os epilunate is exceedingly rare 1. It is located dorsally, along the dorsal surface of the lunocapitate articulation.
Accessory ossicles in the wrist can be a source of pain or can be misinterpreted as fracture or a loose body.
