Effusion of the right sacroiliac joint with oedema at soft tissues anterior to the joint extending beneath the right iliacus muscles. No subchondral and bone marrow oedema.
The dark shadow at T2 axial images is saturation band that suppresses the flow related artifact coming from structures adjacent to the area of interest.
Case Discussion
Septic arthritis is a pyogenic inflammation of the joint. Sacroiliac joint is a relatively uncommon location of septic arthritis. The presence of localised fluid continuous with the sacroiliac joint in patient with agonizing pain raises the possibility of septic sacroiliac arthritis.
