Presentation
Head injury following fall from a bike ; road traffic accident.
Patient Data
Note: This case has been tagged as "legacy" as it no longer meets image preparation and/or other case publication guidelines.
Abnormal hyper dense area of blood HU (avg. HU 62) is noted along the right cerebral convexity
It is seen to extend along the fronto-temporo-parietal convexity and is crescent shaped
It is causing mild mass effect as seen at the level of the lentiform nucleus
Yellow arrows indicate the hyper dense area extending along the right cerebral convexity
It is a subdural haemorrhage
Case Discussion
Case of acute subdural haemorrhage
It is a type of extra-axial bleed
Other known type is the extradural/ epidural haemorrhage
Subdural bleed has 3 phases:
- acute
- subacute
- chronic
The density of the bleed decreases with time from blood HU (50-70) to near CSF HU (10-15)
