Lead gowns are typically used for abdominal shielding during CXRs of pregnant women but their use is decreasing as studies are showing less benefit in radiation reduction as initially thought. The use of a lead gown for CXR has the potential to increase patient dose due to the AEC trying to penetrate through the shield.
