Colobomatous cyst

Discussion:

This condition is also known as microphthalos with cyst. It occurs due to failure of closure of optic fissure and resultant herniation of vitreous. The usual location is inferior to orbit and defect is seen in posterior globe or optic nerve head.

Differentiation of colobomatous cyst has to be made from a congenital cystic eye in which the globe is replaced by cysts and hence not visualized.
