Transcervical Fallopian tube occlusion device: Essure

Discussion:

The Essure Fallopian tube device has a typical appearance with bulbous metallic ends and should not be confused with other medical devices or foreign bodies.  They sit in each tube at their junction with the uterine body. Radiologists do not usually insert the devices but hysterosalpingograms are recommended at 3 months after insertion in order to confirm tube occlusion.  Until this has been done, alterative contraception should be used.
