Hemorrhagic pulmonary metastases from uterine angiosarcoma

Discussion:

These pulmonary lesions represent metastases from the patient's known primary (uterine angiosarcoma). The ground-glass attenuation is likely to represent peritumoral alveolar hemorrhage, secondary to the fragility of neovascular tissue.

Hemorrhagic pulmonary metastases are those which tend to be complicated by pulmonary hemorrhage within them, which result in a characteristic imaging appearance. Most common etiologies are:

  • angiosarcoma
  • choriocarcinoma
  • melanoma
  • renal cell carcinoma
  • osteosarcoma
