Submandibular gland agenesis

Discussion:

This is a classic presentation of a palpable, unilateral left neck mass confirmed to represent a mildly hypertrophied left submandibular gland in a setting of a right submandibular gland agenesis/aplasia. The left submandibular and bilateral parotid glands are otherwise normal.

There is a confirmed absence of any previous neck surgical intervention.

The patient appears asymptomatic with respect to any dysphagia, dry mouth or any other oral symptoms.

There is no known background congenital syndromic disorder.
