What further imaging investigations could be performed?
These patients are best managed in stroke units with dedicated teams. Follow up imaging can include Doppler ultrasound of the carotid arteries, MRI or CT angiography. Other investigations include electrocardiogram (ECG), 24 hour ECG, and cardiac echocardiogram if an embolic source is suspected (and this is standard with most patients).
Extensive ischaemic changes in the right MCA distribution with general hypodensity and loss of grey-white matter differentiation. Also evidence of infarct in the left MCA territory.
