Jones fractures are basal extra-articular fractures of the 5^th metatarsal. They are usually caused by the forced adduction of the forefoot.

Basal fractures of the 5^th metatarsal can be divided into three zones:

• zone 1: avulsion fracture (pseudo-Jones fracture)
• zone 2: extra-articular fracture at the proximal metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction (true Jones fracture)
• zone 3: proximal shaft fracture (usually stress fractures)
