Persistence of the metopic suture may be mistaken for fracture of the frontal bone. The usual age of obliteration of metopic suture is seven years. It is also associated with hypoplasia/agenesis of frontal sinuses. Metopic synostosis is a terminology used for the premature fusion of metopic suture.
