X-ray
What is a good way to assess rotation on a chest x-ray of an adult?
Look at the medial ends of the clavicle. They should be equidistant from the spinous processes in the midline.
Is the trachea displaced from the midline?
The trachea is slightly to the right of midline, but the chest x-ray is not straight and the degree of rotation is consistent with tracheal position.
What findings are demonstrated on this film aside from rotation and underinspiration?
There is increased density in the right apical and upper zone with associated volume loss and elevation of the horizontal fissure.
The film is rotated to the right and underinspired.
No ECG monitoring. NG tube tip is too high and the tip is likely within the distal oesophagus.
There is increased density in the apical and right upper zones with elevation of the horizontal fissure. Features here are of right upper lobe collapse.
