Complete radial tear of the medial meniscus

Discussion:

Complete radial tears are also known as meniscal transections. They give rise to a ghost meniscus, and in this case, this is best appreciated on the coronal sequences.

Articular surface loss can be described in different ways on MRI, ranging from purely descriptive (areas of partial thickness loss) to more diagnostic statements (moderate osteoarthritis or moderate chondromalacia).
