There is significant distension of the sigmoid colon measuring up to 10 cm in diameter which twists around its long axis resulting in a volvulus with a beak-shaped transition points giving a whirl sign appearance.
The rest of the colon is mildly distended with faecal matter.
Small bowel loops are compressed and displaced centrally.
Mild ascites in the pelvic cavity.
No intraperitoneal free gas.
Bilateral lumbar transitional vertebrae is also noted-Type IIB (LSTV classification).
