Cardiovascular manifestations of ankylosing spondylitis may affect approximately 2-10% of all patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Cardiac complications had been traditionally classified into 3 main categories which include 2:
- aortitis and aortic insufficiency
- cardiac conduction abnormalities
- conduction disturbances especially of the atrioventricular node (with a probable subsequent indication for a pacemaker)
- myocardial involvement with a possible compromise of left ventricular function
