type I: extradural meningeal cyst without neural tissue
- type Ia: extradural spinal arachnoid cyst
- type Ib: sacral meningocele
type II: extradural meningeal cyst containing neural tissue, e.g. Tarlov cyst
type III: intradural spinal arachnoid cyst
