Dilatation of the pulmonary trunk or dilatation of the main pulmonary artery mPA can occur in a large number of variable situations. Although a considerable proporton of these situations are association with pulmonary hypertension  it some instances it may occur without it. It diameter cut off to be considered as an enlargement has been variably defined but with most publications suggesting an upper limits of around 29-33 mm 1. The upper limits of normal can comparatively higher in males 7 . Other publications also suggest the pulmonary trunk to aortic ratio as an additionally useful measure (where the normal value in most cases is take around 1:1 or less.
