Vitamin B3 (niacin or nicotinic acid) is a water-soluble vitamin, part of the vitamin B complex, that is an important part of the coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) which is involved in many reactions of cellular metabolism. Vitamin B3 is one of the haematinics.
Related pathology
- pellagra is the clinical syndrome of niacin deficiency, and may affect the CNS, skin and GI system
- niacin excess: may be associated with transient symptoms
