Epidural lipomatosis

There is prominence of posterior epidural fat which is maximum at L2-3 disc level where it measures 9mm anteroposteriorly. The disc changes, ligamentum flavum hypertrophy and excessive posterior epidural fat are causing mild stenosis of the spinal canal and indenting the cauda equina.

Case Discussion

Epidural lipomatosis is a benign condition usually associated with other causes of excess fat deposition in the body or can be an isolated finding. There can be mass effect on the nerves due to this fat causing associated sensory or motor complaints.
