Accessory iliotibial band-meniscal ligament as an anatomical variant.

Associated small oblique anterior horn lateral meniscus tear extending to the anterior root attachment with intra-osseous ganglion cyst formation within the anterior tibial spine.

Other:

  • partially imaged proximal leg ganglion either a popliteal ganglion cyst (favored) or intra-neural ganglion cyst. No denervation edema or atrophy

Case Discussion

The accessory iliotibial band-meniscal ligament (AIML) represents an anatomic variant of fixation of the lateral meniscus.

It is strongly associated with lesions of the lateral meniscus (particularly anterior horn tears) as well as Hoffa's fat pad edema.

The lateral meniscal tear is the presumed cause of pain in this patient.
