Presentation
Left calf pain and swelling for the last few days. Referred to rule out deep venous thrombosis.
Patient Data

There is an anechoic cyst in the popliteal fossa. Proximally; its neck is between semimembranosus and medial head of gastrocnemius tendons. Cyst shows pointed end distally with a leak of fluid in subcutaneous plane resulting in edema.
There was no deep venous thrombosis ( images not uploaded ).
Case Discussion
Deep venous thrombosis is an important clinical diagnosis in case of acute onset of unilateral calf pain and swelling which is non-traumatic in origin. If there is no deep venous thrombosis on ultrasound ( as in this case ), we have to look for other causes like infection, aneurysm, ruptured Baker cyst. This case shows a ruptured Baker cyst.
