Sagittal T2w image of the thoracic spine. There is a mountain-like hypointense, calcified disc herniation with compression of the dural sac and thoracic spinal cord. The extent of cord compression is better depicted on the transverse (axial) T2w image. The mountain-like appearance of this calcified disc herniation led to the description of the Matterhorn sign.

CT shows a calcified thoracic disc herniation.

The calcified disc herniation resembles Matterhorn Mountain in Alpes 1.
