Dens fracture and epidural haematoma

Fall with head strike.

Patient Data

Age: 85
Gender: Female

Brain CT

Brain CT shows a small volume right tentorial subdural haematoma and on the lower slices there is circumferential epidural haematoma compressing the cord at C1. 


CT Cervical Spine

Subsequently performed CT of the cervical spine reveals a non-displaced type 2 dens fracture with large associated circumferential epidural haeamtoma compressing the cord at the C1 and C2 level.  

Case Discussion

Non-displaced type 2 dens fracture complicated with epidural haematoma with upper cervical cord compression.
