Comminuted fracture of left distal radius and ulna styloid

Left wrist

Comminuted intraarticular fracture involving the distal radius. The radiocarpal and radioulnar joints are involved. 

Minimally displaced ulnar styloid fracture.

No carpal bone dislocation. The Gilula's arcs are preserved. The carpo-metacarpal joint is normal.

Impression:  Comminuted fracture of the distal radius with ulnar styloid fracture (Frykman type VIII fracture).

Case Discussion

Frykman classification is used for categorizing the distal radius fracture. There are several types and in this case it is Type VIII. Type VIII is comminuted fracture with the involvement of both the radiocarpal and radioulnar joints, with inclusion of ulnar styloid fracture.
