Presentation

Right flank pain and fullness on physical exam.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Urinary collecting system of right kidney is duplicated and severe hydroureteronephrosis with marked parenchymal atrophic changes are seen at upper pole moiety.

A 65 mm ureterocele is noted at distal of upper moiety ureter without mass or impacted stone. 

In addition, lower pole moiety displaced to the inferolateral side and shows moderate hydroureteronephrosis due to a 15 mm distal ureteral stone, a few centimeters before the UVJ. 

Case Discussion

A  duplicated collecting system, is one of the most common congenital renal tract abnormalities which is characterized by an incomplete fusion of upper and lower pole moieties and may be complicated by vesicoureteric reflux, obstruction or ureterocele.
