Trauma to the left side of the head. Reduced GCS. Boggy left temporal swelling.
Patient Data








Large left sided lentiform acute extra axial collection with effacement and displacement of the left lateral ventricle.
Underyling left temporoparietal fracture.
Case Discussion
Extradural hematomas occur in the context of head trauma with 95% ( unlike subdural hematomas ) having an underlying skull fracture.
The collection is lentiform in appearance and when large cause considerable mass effect - this potentially life threatening injury is easily dealt with surgically provided prompt recognition and surgery is instigated.
The volume rendered 3D images of the skull delineate skull vault fractures exquisitly.
