Presentation
A few days prior to the presentation; the patient had a left ankle twist. Complaining of pain on the anterolateral side of the hind-foot region.
Patient Data



Lateral view shows an avulsed bone flake from the dorsal surface of the navicular bone with adjacent soft tissue swelling. There is no dislocation/bone lesion.

Dorsal talonavicular ligament
- Bony avulsion from the dorsal side of the navicular bone
- The ligament is oedematous but intact.
Extensor hallucis brevis and extensor digitorum brevis muscles
- Bony avulsion from the superolateral surface of the calcaneum bone
- Muscle oedema near avulsion site
Ankle joint
- Anterior recess - no effusion
Anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament
- Intact, normal echo pattern
Anterior talofibular and calcaneofibular ligaments
- Intact, normal echopattern
Deltoid ligament
- Intact, normal echopattern
Other findings
- Mild soft tissue oedema involving the dorsal side of navicular - calcaneum bone.
Case Discussion
Radiograph and ultrasound show foot avulsion injuries.
