Presentation

Thumb trauma - 2 wks. Plain radiograph - No fracture. Referred for ulnar collateral ligament evaluation by ultrasound.

Patient Data

Age: 50 yrs
Gender: Female
Ultrasound

There is loss of continuity of ulnar collateral ligament of thumb at its distal attachment site. Controlled stress view shows widening of joint space. Ruptured ligament is deep to adductor aponeurosis. There is no associated bony avulsion.

Comparision with asymptomatic side is done; which shows intact ligament.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound findinds favour rupture of ulnar collateral ligament of thumb without Stener lesion.
