Global hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury

Presentation

Attempted suicide with prolonged asphyxia and resuscitation after cardiac arrest. History of HIV and mucomycosis in left orbital region.

Age: 40
Gender: Male

Brain

Modality: CT

CT show marked hypodensity in all basal ganglia, frontal and left occipital region. Loss of gray-white matter differentiation with extensive global brain edema causing a loss of gyri and completely compressed the left lateral ventricle. In orbital region, in relation to the sphenoid sinus and optic nerve an already diagnosed mucormycosis is observed

Case Discussion

This case shows a hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy. Patient died hours afterwards.
