Ossification of the falx cerebri

Case contributed by Dr Bruno Di Muzio

CT scan for trauma, incidental finding.

Patient Data

Age: 79-year-old
Gender: Female

Ossification focus within the cerebral falx.

Case Discussion

Since falx cerebri is derived from embryonic mesenchymal cells, occasional ossification might be seen due to friction, haemorrhage or trauma, which results in some osteogenic changes leading to the formation of membranous bone.
